Virus Alert

Its contagious. Its everywhere. Its an epidemic!

DWR - Depression Without Reason.

Or atleast without any apparent reason. Over the last week, almost every blog that I've read has had a post about 'feeling low' or 'feeling directionless in life' or 'feeling restless'. And almost every time I thought, oh that sounds like me!

Most of those who know me, are going to give me one disgusted look and think what-d-hell-is-she-complaining-about! Yeah.. maybe I dont have a reason to complain. But then I warned you.. DWR. Without Reason. And me-thinks most of us have been infected by this problem, because of one of these scenarios.

Maybe life becomes too monotonous at times. Or too simple. Have you noticed how time flies when we are jam-packed with meaningful work? Simple work is just that - simple. And if life doesnt challenge us, dont we feel a little under-utilised? Dont we feel low? So... apparently, a routine and simple life doesnt do wonders for our self-esteem.

Of course, the other scenario could be that we have too much time on your hands. Like I sometimes do. And then we start asking meaningless questions about life, which we wouldnt, if we had better things to think about!

This also reminds me of R's belief in the Matrix theory (This is another R. Sorry, almost all my friends have initials A, R, S. Ok, that doesnt sound very nice!). He says the reason we have all these shenanigans of life to distract us, is so that we never stop and ask 'What is the point'? Because there is no point at all!

Is there?

You've gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street
And now you find out you're gonna have to get used to it
You said you'd never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He's not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And ask him do you want to make a deal?

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all come down and did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain't it hard when you discover that
He really wasn't where it's at
After he took from you everything he could steal.

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people
They're drinkin', thinkin' that they got it made
Exchanging all kinds of precious gifts and things
But you'd better lift your diamond ring, you'd better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse
When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal.

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

obviously there is a point. we do ponder about the "shenanigans" of life (that's what u'd like to call them; i'd rather not classify them) i don't realise the logic behind the matrix theory. if there isn't any point, and one knows that, why would one ponder? surely, one wouldn't want to be decieved!

R's point is almost correct. The true thing we're afraid of in moments of idleness is simple - we are responsible for our own meanderings, ponderings, actions and creations in life. No matter how much we want it "to be told to us", ultimately there is really no point to life - until you create one and follow it. Most of us, though, would rather be followers - who naturally feel depressed in the absence of leadership.

Jupiter - Yes will start thinking of interesting pseudonyms for them all ;)

Totti - No I'm not a big fan of Porter, but I think I know what you mean.

Jack - You missed the first verse.
Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?
People'd call, say, "Beware doll, you're bound to fall"
You thought they were all kiddin' you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hangin' out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal.

Alice - Join the club!

Shashi, Anshul,
Do let me know when you find 'the point'.

Princesse - Will go over and read it pronto.

Archster - Yup yup, keep busy!

Read Siddhartha by Herman Hesse.
Hmm...different stages in life maybe need different "points"? Dunno. Just a thought.
DWR is a wildly prevalent state in the west, much more so than i saw in india. Much more so in our generation than the previous one...maybe some hints of answers there?New to your blog but shall drop in cause I enjoyed the visit.Cheers.
